Apprentice is one of the six intermediate classes that can be selected for a player character upon their first promotion. Only Students can advance to this magic-oriented class.
Description
Apprentices are advanced students who have chosen to concentrate their studies on elemental schools. As they unravel the secrets of fire, air, water and earth, apprentices also master the identification of items and monsters. The final professional choice of an apprentice is to either learn the highest elemental spells as a sorcerer, or walk the dark, but tremendously powerful path of the necromancer.
Skills
Apprentices can learn many skills, particularly various schools of magic, but not all, and they aren't yet able to master them to the fullest.
- Master: Fire Magic, Air Magic, Water Magic, Earth Magic, Identify Item, Identify Monster
- Expert: Spellcasting, Dagger, Staff, Music, Leather, Merchant, Learning, Meditation, Stealing, Alchemy
- Normal: Bow, Disarm Trap, Perception, Repair
Self magic is entirely out of their reach.
Hit- and spellpoints
The class of Apprentice gives the character:
- hitpoints = 0 + 2 * level
- spellpoints = 0 + 3 * level
Race provides hit- and spellpoints as well.
Promotion
Lord August, the High Seer of Serenity, grants all player characters their first promotion after the party completes the Power Crystals quest.
Apprentices have two options for their final promotion: Sorcerer or Necromancer.
- Head of school Melanie Bourne (Semiramis) takes care of the promotion to Sorcerer. Candidates are challenged to collect five Objects of Witchcraft from Karigor's provinces and put them into the cauldron of Maranthea College.
- Guildmaster Tadodaho (Nannaria) handles the promotion to Necromancer. Candidates must get the Magic Mill from the Black Forge in Ryft and will need to visit Lake Avernus to accomplish this.
