Vori, on the road
As the party was not willing to risk a tumble from the
mountain, the journey took them back to Larhana, where
Arturchix set beacon #2. The innkeeper, Penno, is willing to
give them directions, but only smiles if they ask him about
the chanting. And so it was that after a bowl of soup our
adventurers set foot on the road south from the settlement,
waving goodbye to Dragonheart and the kind Snowelves.
Soon after leaving the village, the road bends to the
southeast, while slowly going downhill. Different sounds now
reach their ears.
Two times Regran swears he hears
footsteps. Small and many, he says. But a steady roar is
forming, too, and it's getting louder, although still distant,
when suddenly the road is no longer flanked by treelines.
The party halts. To the left begins the shore of the
lake, the crystal blue water still several feet below them,
with the Seer's mountain at the opposite end. Ahead, from the
direction of the rumbling noise, is what clearly must be a
landbridge leading east, which they are about to enter. A
small trail goes south, apparently following the coastline
further on, but they pay no attention. Instead, with no
clearly marked road to walk on, they move along the lake's
shoreline at the north side of the landbridge, going east.
It is then that they notice the lake is populated.
Mergryph by Uta 'Freawyn'
Hesse
Strange creatures, male and female,
that scan as Merfolk of several types, are swimming in the
lake, some resting on rocks. They don't seem to notice the
adventurers at all, even though sometimes one comes close to
where they stand.
A cry alerts the party, and turning
their heads towards it they see that one of the creatures is
taken by a strong current, fighting helplessly. The current
takes it towards the shore and next ... it disappears under
the landbridge! Vilx starts running to the south end, and soon
the others follow. Could it be, that ...?
When they
reach the other end, with the ocean far below, the noise is so
loud that they can't hear anything else. They look down, and
see a huge waterfall appearing from under the landbridge,
obviously carrying water from the lake. They look to find the
creature, but there is no sight of it.
Saddened by the
event, the adventurers sit down, trying to gather their
thoughts while the night is almost upon them.
