The surface of Karigor, as it appears in the game, is similar in size to the surface in earlier Might and Magic episodes that played on Colony.

There are 15 square area maps. In contrast to these other episodes, however, the areas are not arranged as a rectangle but as a pyramid. As a consequence, each area has six borders instead of four.

Area size

Each area represents a province but is in the game only 1024 x 1024 m2 large. The maximum distance that the party can ever see into a neighbouring area is half an area length, or 512 m. It follows that to contain the full surface map of Karigor, plus what the party can see beyond Karigor's borders, a square grid of 6144 x 6144 m2 is required, which comes to 2880 x 2880 tiles.

In reality, of course provinces are much larger than that. According to tradition, this is reflected in the time it takes the party to travel from one area to another. On foot, without help from hirelings or the pathfinding skill, crossing to a neighbouring map takes 5 days.
