The level of a player character is a primary attribute that indicates their general development. With each new level a character gets more hitpoints, spellpoints and skillpoints. To gain a level, a character must gather experience and train. Only once they have earned a title, are characters allowed to train beyond level 25.

Description
A character's level is a measure of the training they have received. Attaining a new level provides additional hitpoints, spellpoints ans skillpoints.
----

Benefits
Attaining a higher level gives a player character:
* skillpoints to spend on the character's skills;
* more hitpoints, depending on class and race + title;
* more spellpoints, depending on class and race + title;
* an increase in strength of their racial ability;
* tougher opposition in the Arena.
----

Gaining levels
The experience points required to level up increase according to the formula

::XP (L) = XP (L-1) + 1,000 * L

where XP (1) = 1,000, L = level, XP = total experience points.

Each player character starts out at level 1, with 1,000 experience points and 5 skillpoints to distribute at start-up. Added skillpoints per level gained are 5 initially, raised to 6 when training for level 11, 7 starting with level 21, and so on.

Some item enchantments and wells can give a character a temporary increase in level without training. This does not provide extra skillpoints.
----

Training halls
With the exception of The Tutorial in Kalimar (Terrax), every Training Hall has a maximum level to which they can train player characters. Some Training Halls specialize in the classes and train individual characters, while others accept the entire party.
The age of a player character is the difference between the current date and their date of birth, which is chosen when the character is created. This primary attribute normally changes with 1 day per 24 hours, but some magical effects can change this.
Description
Endurance is a measure of the physical toughness and durability of a character. A high Endurance statistic gives a character more hitpoints.
----
Endurance affects the number of hitpoints that a player character has. The statistic's effect on hitpoints is determined by a table of thresholds and ranges from -6 to +25.
During the game, a character's might will typically increase by various boosts, potions and item enchantments. Some effects are permanent, while others are temporary.
Description
Might represents a character’s natural strength, and the ability to put that strength where it counts. Characters with a high Might statistic do more damage in combat.
----

Effect
Might affects the damage that a player character does in battle. That includes:
* primary damage, from a hit with the character's main weapon (or fists) in melee combat;
* secondary damage, from a hit with a secondary weapon in their left hand;
* ranged damage, from a succesful shot in ranged combat.
The statistic's effect on damage is determined by a table of thresholds and ranges from -6 to +25.

The experience of a player character is a primary attribute that attaches a value to the character's deeds. This is the raw source of character development.
----

Description
Experience is a simple indicator of a character’s overall understanding of the world. With enough experience points (and some gold), characters can visit training grounds throughout the land to increase their level and gain skillpoints to spend on skills.
----

Purpose
A character that has collected suffient experience points can go to a Training Hall and train to advance to the next level. That increases the character's hitpoints and spellpoints, and provides them with skillpoints that can be used to advance in any of the skills they possess.

Furthermore, the player's final score depends on the collective experience of all party members.
----

Gaining experience
There are various ways to gain experience in Might and Magic Tribute.

* Usually, part of the reward for completing a quest is experience. The harder the quest, the more experience points the party will earn. All player characters receive the same, fixed amount, independent of party size.
* Killing a monster is the second main source of experience. Each monster offers a fixed total amount of experience points: the tougher the monster, the more points. These are equally divided among all characters that are conscious at the time of the kill. As a consequence, individual members of a small party can gain more experience from kills than members of a large party, but of course it is harder for a small party to make the kill in the first place.
* A promotion or title gives a character some extra experience points.
* Both the Well of Wisdom and the Well of Wonders can grant a character bonus experience points.

During the game, some difference in experience between party members can be expected, but usually they will all be able to level up at the same time.

Ribannahhttp://www.castlegobs.nl/wiki/index.php/TitleTitle2013-02-10T23:54:44Z
Ribannah: /* Benefits */

player character
attributes

The title of a player character is a primary attribute that the character can gain by winning the favour of the leaders of their race. For each of the six playable races, there is a special title quest that the party can attempt. Completing this quest gives each member of that race several advantages. If no character of that race belongs to the party, the quest can still be taken and completed, but will only result in an honourary title.

As long as the title quest has not been completed, the title attribute defaults to the name of the race.
----

Benefits
Earning a title provides the characters of that race with the following benefits:
* an additional bonus in base reputation of +5 with the benefactor's faction;
* an additional racial ability;
* extra hitpoints and spellpoints;
* permission to train beyond level 25.

player character

Every player character has an inventory where all the items that the character is carrying but hasn't equipped are stored. It is accessible through the inventory screen.
----

Size of the inventory
The inventory in Might and Magic Tribute is a matrix of 9 rows by 14 columns, except for Ogres, that have a larger inventory of 9 by 21. All items have a fixed size in squares, but some smaller items such as arrows and reagents will be stacked if they are the same. Items can only be stored in one orientation, they cannot be rotated.

Items have no weight, only their size matters.
----

When the inventory is full
Picking up treasure, buying items at shops, and so on may fill the inventory of a character faster than expected. In that case, there are several things the party can do.
* Rearrange items to avoid empty spaces.
* Pass on items from one character to another that still has room.
* Cast the luggage spell, from the Spirit Magic school, which provides the party with a temporary extra inventory.
* Sell items at shops.
* Store items in chests or other containers, or in the vault of a bank. This may not be entirely safe at all times.
* Use items (eat food, learn spells from spellbooks, cast spells from scrolls, drink potions, equip items).
* As a last resort, drop items. They will quickly disappear, presumably picked up by the locals or by rival adventurers, when the party moves to another area.
If, by mistake, a quest item gets dropped and left behind, chances are that it will pop up at the Market of Time.

player character
attributes
A statistic is an attribute that describes a natural characteristic of a player character, like their might or speed. Their values are listed on the character's Statistics screen.

The initial values depend on a player character's race but can be adjusted to some extent when the character is created. Statistics affect how a character performs and will typically increase by various boosts, potions and item enchantments during the game. These effects may be either permanent or temporary.
----

Thresholds
The effect of statistics (and some other attributes) on a character's performance is nonlinear. This is realized mathematically with the use of thresholds. A statistic's value of 13 is neutral and results in a base effect (e.g. damage done is equal to a weapon's property). Values less than 13 have a negative effect. Thresholds are the same as in Might and Magic 6 through 9.
The amount of spellpoints indicates the mana of a rested and whole player character. In the beginning of the game, this is a small number, and the party should be careful not to waste them. As the game continues, most characters will increase their potential, eventually allowing them to confront any danger with powerful magic.
The number of spellpoints depends on the character's race and title, class, and meditation skill, all increasing with the character's level, and their magic stat. Finally, some item enchantments can directly affect spellpoints.
Races and classes that get more spellpoints will accumulate less hitpoints, and vice versa.
Necromancer is one of the twelve final classes that can be selected for a player character upon their second promotion. Only Apprentices can advance to this magic-oriented class.
----

Description
Necromancers leave their studies of the elements behind and choose the path of dark, cherishing a new range of the most destructive spells one can imagine, which they will cast as a spellcasting grandmaster. If they run out of spellpoints too fast they still have master-level elemental spells to fall back on, or as the only spellcaster class they can use a sword. A most valuable contribution to combat is their ability to identify all monsters and their weaknesses.
----

Skills
Necromancers can learn many skills, but not all. They follow the path of dark. In their field of excellence, they are the only class that can reach full potential.
Promotion
Guildmaster Tadodaho (Nannaria) handles the promotion to Necromancer. Candidates must get the Magic Mill from the Black Forge in Ryft and will need to visit Lake Avernus to accomplish this.
With their knowledge of the self magics as a basis, Saints have chosen to follow the holy path of light. Knight is one of the twelve final classes that can be selected for a player character upon their second promotion. Only Warriors can advance to this might-oriented class.
----

Description
The knight class is the workhorse fighting class. Wielding two swords, or the deadly combination of sword and spear, they can deal significant damage to any foe or monster. In different situations a knight, protected by shield and plate armour, will give the other party members the time they need to cast their spells - something a knight can never learn. While they are already the toughest fighters of all classes, grandmastery of bodybuilding allows knights to remain standing when others would fall.
----

Skills
Knights can learn many skills, particularly combat skills, but not all. In their field of excellence, they are the only class that can reach full potential.
Race provides hit- and spellpoints as well.
Pathfinding is the miscellaneous skill to find one's way on the map. Troll, Elf and Genie Explorers may begin the game with basic knowledge of this skill. But most player characters can (eventually) learn the skill, with the exception of the elemental specialists.

Description
The Pathfinding skill grants a character the ability to guide a party more effectively through the terrain, thus reducing the time required for map crossings. No map crossing can, however, be reduced to less than one day. Expert pathfinders cross maps even faster, while masters can guide their party underwater, so that they do not run out of breath so quickly. Grandmasters even bring their party mountaineering.

Technical notes
* The best pathfinder among the conscious party members leads the way.
Acquisition
The Pathfinding skill can be acquired at the following guilds:
* Dragonskull (Soronne)
----
Alchemy is the miscellaneous skill to mix potions. Vampires begin the game with basic knowledge of this skill, and Humans, as well as Ogre and Troll Students, may do so as well. But all player characters can pick up the skill early on.

Description
The Alchemy skill allows for mixing of potions. Without the alchemy skill, a character barely has the knowledge to make a simple potion. Alchemy skill is added to the power of the reagent to determine the power of a simple potion. Higher ranks allow the mixing of more complicated potions.
----

Acquisition
The Alchemy skill can be acquired at the following guilds:
Description
The Stealing skill allows characters to take items that don't belong to them from shops, or to steal gold or items from people. Getting caught, however, can lead to problems if the penalty is not paid. In addition, the stealing skill affects a character's chance to pick locks.
Identify Monster is the miscellaneous skill to identify unknown monsters and their qualities. Troll, Human, Vampire and Genie Students may begin the game with basic knowledge of this skill. Player characters of most classes can (eventually) learn it, with the exception of the cunning-oriented fighters.
Description
The Identify Monster skill is applied when a monster is examined. If the skill rank of the character is high enough for the monster in question it is identified and its strengths and weaknesses become known. Grandmasters always succeed.
Identifying a monster increases the effectiveness of certain generic spells and enchantments.
Learning is the miscellaneous skill to get skilled faster and to write spells on scrolls. Human, Vampire, Elf and Genie Students may begin the game with basic knowledge of this skill. Most player characters can (eventually) learn it, with the exception of the top might-oriented classes.

Description
The Learning skill increases the number of skillpoints a character receives with every increase in level. In addition, the character learns to write spell scrolls. Eventually, all spells that are available to the party may be written on scrolls.

Technical notes
But all player characters can pick up the skill early on.

Description
The Perception skill gives a character a chance to notice hidden doors, traps and other secrets and to avoid damage from traps when they are triggered. At expert and master levels the character will notice more. Grandmasters see all such secrets.

Technical notes
* Every object has a detection value, ranging from 0 (default: always spotted) to 50, which must be met to detect it.
Unarmed Combat is the combat skill to fight hand-to-hand without equipped weapons. The skill is not available at the start of the game, but can be learned by any might-oriented player character or Scholar.

Description
Unarmed Combat is the ability to use only hands and feet in melee combat, no weapons. This skill only works with hands empty. Additional ranks of unarmed skill will increase the chance to hit and the damage done. Music is the combat skill to equip a musical Instrument, on which a battle tune can be played. Troll, Elf and Genie Students may begin the game with basic knowledge of this skill. Player characters of most classes can (eventually) learn it, with the exception of the top might specialists.

Description
The music skill allows for instruments to be equipped. Playing an instrument during melee combat will inspire the party members and better prepare them for evading incoming attacks. Only one instrument can be equipped at a time, even if more party members have the skill. Expert musicians increase the damage the party does with melee weapons, while masters can play instruments with one hand. Grandmasters gain the ability to make the party evade ranged attacks and do more damage with their own ranged attacks.
Shield is the combat skill to use a Shield, to fend off enemy attacks. Human, Vampire and Genie Explorers may start the game with basic knowledge of this skill. Player characters of most classes can (eventually) learn it, with the exception of the elemental-magic specialists.

Description
The shield skill directly improves a character's Armour Class while a shield is employed. Expert and master ranking in the shield eliminate the recovery penalty and increase this defensive bonus. A grandmaster gains the ability to make a shield-bash attack that does damage equal to two times the shield skill.
