A monster is a form of life that tends to be hostile to the party. They range from beasts to soldiers and some less common forms.

Death

Monsters can be attacked and killed, and can themselves harm or kill player characters or even wipe out the entire party. Death in Might and Magic is a condition that can be cured. In case the entire party gets killed, the player is taken to the death screen and will have the option to resume the game from a safe spot with some loss of time. Monsters that get killed can be searched for loot, upon which their body will disappear. Killing a monster will add some points to the player characters' experience, shared by the characters that are conscious at the moment of the kill.

Monster types

There are many monster types in the game, some traditional and others new but generally familiar. Most monster types come in several subtypes, and tend to form mixed groups. There are usually many individual monsters of any given subtype; however, some monster subtypes are unique and will typically be the leader of the entire horde of that particular type.

Some monsters may have a dialogue.

Monster types can be grouped according to their environment, or rather their way of movement:

  • walk (e.g. a Goblin or a Unicorn)
  • swim (e.g. a Shark or a River Snake)
  • fly (e.g. a Bat or a Ghost)
  • stationary (e.g. a Dendroid).

The velocity of non-stationary monsters varies, even between subtypes; most monsters are able to increase their speed to attack the party.
