A hireling is a non-player character (NPC) that is willing to accompany the party on their travels and boost their skills, or add skills of their own. The party can have a maximum of two hirelings at a time. Quest characters such as rescued princes do not count as hirelings.
For their services, hirelings tend to demand an initial fee as well as a percentage of all gold that the party finds as treasure or loot.
