Ground Rules

Score in Might & Magic is measured as 1000 x Fame / Time, where time is the number of days completed. With respect to score, a new day starts at 9:00 am. Since Fame is calculated as the sum of the experience (killings and completed quests) of all four characters, which can be influenced by other factors than merely good gameplay, a few groundrules are necessary to make scores compatible. The following "cheats" are out.

[1] Respawning (Emerald Isle)
[2] Reanimating (Dark spell)
[3] Repeated kills (by paralysis, or if there's no room for the body to drop down)
[4] Endless roadblocks in Deyja (a minor bug)
[5] The learning skill (another bug, it should affect experience but not fame)
[6] Hiring experience-boosting NPC's (same deal)

If these ground rules are not followed, scores much higher than 100,000 are possible and have in fact been reported.

Let's see, how high scores can become if the ground rules are followed.
The following table shows how much fame is involved with the quests in Might & Magic VII.

Additional fame comes from killing foes, including any Arena fights, and even from killing friends. Only the creatures in the forbidden zones of either the Light or the Dark castle have to be left alone, or else the throne room will be closed to the party.
Since the minimum time to finish the game is 4 months 11 days (a finish before 9:00 on May 13), monster killing needs to yield a minimum of 5064 fame to reach a score of 100,000. If the finish takes one day longer, which seems unavoidable even on the Light Path as hunting down all the monsters takes time, 5164 fame from killing is required.

There is a little variation in score from killing because the monsters are random. Further, the level of the monsters on the surface and in all the dungeons of a submap (including the tunnels) depends on the level of the party when it first enters the submap. The difference between a party of level 1 and a party of level 14 is, however, hardly significant with respect to fame, as one may typically get a single level 3 monster (say, minotaur lord) instead of for instance a group of one level 2 (minotaur herdsman) and two level 1 (minotaur) monsters. At level 50 one may expect to see groups of level 3 monsters, but by then it is already too late to get a high score.

From the walkthrus, it appears that fame from killing everything in a fast game amounts to around 4500. With the variations as small as they are, it would take extreme measures of reloading (imagine going through the Eeofel tunnels twenty times!) to get this up some 600 points. Hence, a pure score of 100,000 is not likely to be seen - but it cannot be completely ruled out either. Have another go?
